Weekly Blog [9/21-9/27]

This sketch was inspired by some of my recent emotions caused by changes in my life. I see how my life was and how it is now and I wonder how things would have turned out differently if certain decisions would have been made instead of others. I've felt stressed lately and after I just feel dragged down. I feel like a shell and I'm unsure what can fill me and fit me right. Like the sketch, I feel as if I'm in a empty place in my life. Things in my environment are starting to die and things are changing. All these emotions could have come about with this new season we're in and the near future of winter. I'm not sure when this stage in my life will end but I'm finding out that I have a lot of figuring out to do.

I was very inspired by these digital photos by Rita Maas. I like how she sets up the photos horizontally in threes. The compositions of the photos are about the same and are grouped accordingly. The photos have a beautiful simplicity and I like the aspect of nature and texture. I really like this website (photoeye.com) because it is a great reasource that I used in my photography class when I need a little boost of inspiration in a project.

"One Man Band" is a really cute and funny animation short by Pixar. I really enjoy how Pixar is always coming up with new ideas but they keep to their own style. I like how in this animation there is no conversation, rather ideas are expressed through music and actions. Sometimes words are not sufficent enough in expresses what you really want to. For me, music and actions are more versitale and are endless in interpetations. I like how you knew the general idea of this short but you could also have your own feelings about it.

Weekly Blog [9/14-9/20]

The video game Little Big Planet is a very inspiring game. The whole idea of the game is a playground for designers. I was first attracted to this game by its graphics. I like the detail and the variety in this game. One could spend hours and hours putting together a level of their choice and it's very rewarding when online players enjoy your level and rate it highlly. I am simply amazed by the graphics and the sense of reality that is put into this imaginary world.
This sketch in a way was inspired by the Little Big Planet game. I really like the look of patchwork, stiches and buttons. My aunt taught me how to sew when I was in elementary school and I have been inspired by that artistic look every sense. I think I could go back to this sketch and add some more detail to it. I would like to give it a more raw material look to put it over the top. This would most likely entail the repetition of tiny marks, resembling the fiber of the cloth.
Over the weekend, I went and saw the movie Cloudy With A Chance of Meatballs, and this preview was shown. I was blown away by the trailer for A Christmas Carol. The trailer was in 3D which made it all the more amazing. At times, it's hard to believe that this movie is computer generated because at times it looks so realistic. This is such a classic story that is being told in a new way. This is a good way to connect generations because parents are probably very familiar with this story as children and now they can share it with their children but with new technology. I'm excited to see this movie when it comes to theatres because its work like this that inspires me to create things similar to that.

Assignment 3 [Illustrator]

Weekly Blog [9/7-9/13]

This sketch is a result of my experiements with ink and pastels. Most of the large black splotches are ink that I stamped off of my hands and rolled off of a pencil. I am happy with this results. I often find that some of my better work comes when I don't step back but dive in. If I think about it too much and will always be unhappy with the results. It's nice to have a general plan but I am learning not to get upset with things do not come out exactly the way that I want them to be. I think sometimes when having a tough time with the creative process, it's helpful to just go for it and don't hold back.

Paper Heart is a sweet and inspiring story. It's about this girl named Charlyne who doesn't believe she will ever fall in love. She learns just how powerful love can really be. I found this to be very inspiring. Lately I have been interested in watching documentaries. And although this is actually a movie, it is shot in a way that is documentary like. This movie got me thinking about just how powerful love can be. It's an unstoppable
force. No one is sure when it starts or when it ends. Sometimes a person feels that he or she can just stop loving someone but to me, it doesn't seem that easy. Love is something that we cannot control but rather controls us. This is a movie for anyone who has ever loved or been loved. This week I saw the movie "9". I was amazed by the animation in this film and the reality of it all. I was amazed by the detail put into the film and I just kept thinking about how dedicated the creators were. It would be fantastic to work on a project like that, visually displaying a story or idea that creatively. I would be extremely proud to create something like this and what is really cool is that these artists have their work out for the whole world to see and admire.

Assignment 2 [Haptic Modeling]

Weekly Blog [8/31-9/4]

This sketch I did of a fish came purely out of just experimenting with shapes and textures. I am happy with the result. I was inspired but the shapes people can pull out of everyday things, such as buildings and landscapes. I would like to experiment more with using simple shapes to create images to see what creations I can come up with.

I found this image from a tutorial (http://psd.tutsplus.com/articles/news/create-a-mixed-media-masterpiece-psd-plus-tutorial/) very inspiring. I never thought of digital media being able to be created by mixed media processes. I like how this image was created by using fine art techniques. The paint gives this image and boost that brings it to the top. I really like how the image came together compostionally. It is beautiful and very inspiring.

Gnarls Barkley's video "Who's Gonna Save My Soul" is very well put together in my opinion. The setting of the video is simple but natural. I like how everything is plain. This brings a lot more attention to special effects of the heart. The heart has the attention but is also in a way natural. It works very well in the over all presentation. It would be wonderful to have the opportunity to work on projects such as music videos were digital media talents can be used.
