Weekly Blog [10/26-11/1]

This sketch was inspired by thoughts of life on other planets. How would cities look? How would housing look? I used different shapes and designs not common to life here on earth because I guessed that "aliens" would have their own kind of style. I just moved my pencil across the paper and found the paths that it took me.

I found the videos above interesting because of the different camera angles they have. We are getting into animation so I thought it would be beneficial to me if I researched different camera techniques. The first video has many camera angles and movements. The second video's cameras don't move that often but stay stationary and do not often move with the subject. The two videos use different filming techniques but both are dynamic based on the the material and camera angles they used. The creators used what works best which teaches me that not all camera techniques work for every subject. I guess it just takes some experimenting to test and see which technique works the best for a specific project.

Weekly Blog [10/19-10/25]

This costume design was purely inspired by the fact that Halloween is in our midst. I tried to work a little bit on my shading because that is a technique I struggle with. My boyfriend, who I think rocks at shading, gave me a few pointers. This isn't the best but I believe that I can improve from what I learn. I am really inspired by the beauty of butterflies. Something about their nature strikes me and I am just fascinated by them. That is why I chose to design a costume around that beautiful creature.

I think this typography desgin is beautiful and nicely constructed. I admire the thought process and planning that went into this piece. This makes me stop and think about all the ordinary objects and things that can be put together in a mosaic sort of way and end up with a beautiful scene. I would like to try something like this on my own. It will probably have to take some practice sketching and working in Photoshop to get it right. However, this is definately something I wanna try.

This typography video is not only humorous but it also is artistic. I like how everything is connected and how the words flow with connections. I find this inspiring because I see the variety of possibilities, these skills could take you. I could work in magazines and on commercials using both skills of typography and graphic design to become successful. I have always wondering what it would be like to work on a magazine as a graphic designer. After watching this video, it reminds me of that dream I have and how it inspires to maybe reach for that goal.

Weekly Blog [10/12-10/18]

This is just a quick sketch I did of a heart. I'm really inspired and interesting in the human heart. There is just something that is so fascinating to me about it. I guess it has something to do with how complicated the heart is. It's complex but vital to all of us. Also the heart is not just a vital organ but it also has a simple context in life. The heart is a simple shape in the world that is most likely recognizable to anyone. We see it at Valentines Day and little notes to friends. I just really enjoy learning metaphors about the heart as well as real facts about the human heart. It's an inspiration to me and its something that I find very interesting.
I thought this photograph was absolutely beautiful. I worked a little with a fisheye lense but never had a success like this. Which probably tells me I need to keep on working with it. I really admire this photograph for its beauty because the beauty is natural and not staged. I'm passionate about photography and I really miss it. I haven't been working with my camera lately. This image really inspires me to get back to work and start a project with something I really love again. I need to be reunited with my first love: Photography.

This commerical by Spike Jonze is beautifully and creatively put together. It's amazing. There are a lot of good commericals out there that are well made a creative but don't really go with whatever is being advertised. However, when I watched this commercial and saw how great it was, I also saw a connection with the product. I've recently seen some of Spike Jonze's work, and I have to saw that he is a creative genius. He is quite the inspiration to me and I just adore what I've seen of his so far. I hope to learn a lot from what he has done and create my own style.

Weekly Blog [10/5-10/11]

This is my sketch for the week. It's of a sea turtle. I was inspired to draw this sea creature due to my interest in texture. I like the texture of turtle's shells. I have two turtles as pets and it's really interesting to watch them grow out of their shells and to find pieces floating on the water. They look like little puzzle pieces. Even though you can't see the shell in this particular sketch , I looked at the skin of the turtle as well, noticing the patterns and wrinkles found in this animal. I suppose this sketch would look better if I had shading it and that is something that I admit I need to work on. My problem is that I don't have the patience to shade but it is definitely something that I would like to work more on. However, something that always inspires me and interests me is texture.

This is a multimedia piece I did for a photography assignment. We used scanners as a form of taking pictures. Our task included collecting materials and making a story out of things we found and made. My story was a about a dinosaur. I drew the dinosaur and make the background with textured paper , watercolors, and pastels. I also used aluminum foil and fabric to give the image more depth and texture. After scanning the image I took into Photoshop and messed with the hue and saturation of the color as well as the brightness and contrast. I really like experimenting with texture and I am happy with how this image turned out.

This is an image I took with my Canon 35 mm film camera. I really like photography and this camera is rather old but I love the images that I can produce with it. I am still in love with black and white film and developing even though most pictures are taking digitally. This comes from a roll of color film I was messing around with. Once again, I want to focus on the texture found on the window. My mom was a little upset with me when she saw this photo because it showed the world how dirty my windows in my room are. However, I didn't mind one bit because I was so fascinated by the colors and textures produced. I was quite happy with how it turned out. I just feel that taking pictures with film can make ordinary places and objects you seen tons of times more extraordinary.

Weekly Blog [9/28-10/4]

This sketch was inspired by the oncoming holiday of El Dia De Los Muertos( The Day of the Dead). I really like the art that is associated with this Hispanic holiday. The skulls and skeletons in this type of art are cartoons and are not proportional , which is something I like. I like that because the art focuses less on how acurate you are, but rather focuses on the artists personal style. Artwork for El Dia De Los Muertos is colorful, fun and animated. I tried to take some of that into my sketch by having my skeleton partly bones but also part flower. I am inspired by this holiday's art and history because it's more about a celebration of life and not a mourning of the dead.

On Friday I went to the planetarium in the Natural History Museum to see the First Friday Fractals which is presented by the Fractal Foundation (http://fractalfoundation.org/). This was the first time I've ever heard anything about fractals and it was very fascinating. The show is about an hour long inside the planetarium. All you do is lay back in your chair and enjoy the show. What I really enjoyed about this exhibit was that it felt interactive when it really wasn't. When zooming inside some of the patterns, you felt as if you moving up in your seat, like a ride. If there were spirals in the fractal, then you felt like you were spinning. It beautiful and breathtaking. It reminded me of how digital media and interactive media can take you out of your reality and transport you somewhere else. Even though I stayed in the same place the whole time, I felt as if I was moving with the fractals. A for that hour, I forgot about everything and everyone. I highly recommend this to anyone, of any age.

This video is a little preview of the sights you could see if you went to the First Friday Fractals. The narrator told us that it take about a month to render the zooms. I just found all of his work impressive. He also mention that the music played was made by a band that his brother was in. This video was not created by the Frist Friday Fractals narrator but if you want to see some really amazing presentations I suggest you go check out the show.
