On Friday I went to the planetarium in the Natural History Museum to see the First Friday Fractals which is presented by the Fractal Foundation (http://fractalfoundation.org/). This was the first time I've ever heard anything about fractals and it was very fascinating. The show is about an hour long inside the planetarium. All you do is lay back in your chair and enjoy the show. What I really enjoyed about this exhibit was that it felt interactive when it really wasn't. When zooming inside some of the patterns, you felt as if you moving up in your seat, like a ride. If there were spirals in the fractal, then you felt like you were spinning. It beautiful and breathtaking. It reminded me of how digital media and interactive media can take you out of your reality and transport you somewhere else. Even though I stayed in the same place the whole time, I felt as if I was moving with the fractals. A for that hour, I forgot about everything and everyone. I highly recommend this to anyone, of any age.
This video is a little preview of the sights you could see if you went to the First Friday Fractals. The narrator told us that it take about a month to render the zooms. I just found all of his work impressive. He also mention that the music played was made by a band that his brother was in. This video was not created by the Frist Friday Fractals narrator but if you want to see some really amazing presentations I suggest you go check out the show.
